Justin Paull wins at Laang

Saturday night we headed to Laang speedway in the states west, for round 3 of the championship. The little bullring produced the goods and shaped up for some awesome compact racing. We had regular speedcar ace Ash Booker in the house, substituting for injured Butch Hutchinson in the v2
Heat 1 the track started to dry out and become quite racy. Justin Paull back behind the wheel
Of the Mark & Lynne Hutchinson owned v66, picked up from where he left off and got the heat race win in the opening heat, while Louis Rodriguez worked his way past Mark Hutchinson in the closing laps to finish 2nd and Mark Hutchinson in 3rd.
Some close hard racing in heat 2 saw three different race leaders. Jamie Paull got the early lead with Louis Rodriguez in hot pursuit in the v11 and Ash Booker in 3rd. Rodriguez made a great move to take the lead from Jamie Paull but Jamie wasn’t done and put up a great battle, until young brother Justin made a movie out of turn 2 and got the pair in one fell swoop to take the lead and went on to win heat 2. Rodriguez 2nd and Booker 3rd.
The final heat of the night the track was at its fastest all night. The show was out the front with Louis Rodriguez and Ash Booker, the pair showing how competitive compact racing is. Rodriguez lead from the get go, but Booker was working hard in 2nd trying to make a move or wait for Louis to make a mistake. But Rodriguez kept his cool and took the win with Booker in 2nd with the fastest lap of the night with a 12.352.
Every one was itching for the compact final to start, as the racing was unreal all night. The track had slickend off by the compact feature but the competitors put on a fantastic show. Justin Paull got the jump off the start and lead from green to cheque. Louis Rodrigez in 2nd and Ash Booker in 3rd. Jamie Paull and Mark Hutchinson had some mechanical issue through the night but still had good pace, Tania Hallett started to get her head around the smaller track and Ann Clarke put down some solid consistent laps.
On behalf of the Victorian Compact Speedcar Club, we would like to thank Laang speedway and their officials for putting on a great show and making us all feel welcome.
