Cameron Pesschier took his first feature race win of his career in fine style last Saturday night after taking the lead on lap 3 and never looked back beating home Wayne Corbett and Robbie Stewart.
Wet a…nd greasy conditions greeted the drivers for the first heat of the night where patience would play an important part. However Scott Stirling wasn’t hanging around and quickly started a charge through the field both underneath and powering around the outside of others. By lap 4 Audie Malt was in the lead with Stirling, Stewart and Corbett trying to find a way passed. The temptation proved too much for Stirling on lap 6 and he made a dive under Malt turning into turn 3 which resulted in him sliding into the side of Malt and turning him around. Stirling was sent rear but so was Malt for stopping on the track handing the lead on a plate to Stewart who took the win from Corbett, Nick Hudson, Stirling, Emma Harris, Herb Hecker, Dave Swan, Malt and Clayton Walker making his first appearance for the season.
Heat 2 was a calm race by comparison as Corbett again came through the field to take the win from Stirling, the duelling Hudsons with Gary getting the better of Nick, Clayton Walker who was getting on the pace very quickly, Pesschier and Swan. Sarah Walker DNF.
Pesschier jumped away to an early lead to start heat 3 but it was Gary Hudson this time carving through the field as he set about hunting him down. Harris was also on the move after starting at the back of the bus as she chased Stewart. Hudson rounded Pesschier on lap 4 and set sail however Pesschier chased hard all the way while Stewart and Harris tried to play catch up. Meanwhile Malt, Sarah Walker, Clayton Walker and Hecker were having their own battle as they ran two and three wide in an enthralling fight. Hudson took the checkers comfortably from Pesschier, Stewart, Harris, Clayton Walker, Malt, Sarah Walker and Hecker.
With the grids picked and placed it was Swan and Malt that led the feature away with Malt grabbing the early lead as Pesschier snuck into second. Lap 3 and Pesschier made his move under Malt and into the lead as a lap later Stewart arrived on the scene from mid pack to take second and set sail after Pesschier with Harris close behind. Laps 8 & 9 saw Stewart head up track trying to find a way around the #99 but Pesschier was making his car wide and fast with Stewart drawing up alondside but unable to get passed. Caution flag flew on lap 10 as Stirling spun the #47 henchcraft racer while pushing hard and restarted rear of field as Pesschier had time to grab some big breaths and prepare for the final onslaught. At the drop of the green he grabbed a vital jump as Stewart had to chase but also contend with a fast finishing duo of Hudson and Corbett. Pesschier held strong as Corbett slid under Hudson and the two cars touched as they flew out of turn 2 with Corbett taking the spot and charging on to round up Stewart whose car was going away but no one was going to get Pesschier as he took the chequered flag! While his car was under the decibel reading Im sure it wasn’t under his visor as he emerged with a smile from ear to ear and gasping for oxygen. Corbett grabbed second from Stewart, Clayton Walker, Gary Hudson, Harris, Malt, Nick Hudson, Stirling, Sarah Walker and Swan. Hecker was the only non finisher.
