Gary Hudson took feature number three for the season on Saturday 29th November at Archerfield Speedway leading home Robbie Stewart and Wayne Corbett.
After a week of unsettled weather it was a credit to the track promotors that the track was in any condition to race on and in fact was prepared to the high standard we’ve come to expect.
First heat out and the track was a bit wet and greasy something the drivers haven’t had a lot of so far this season. Sarah Walker was quick out the blocks jumping to an early lead and showing her good season to date is continuing with improving speed and handling. Nick Hudson had settled into second until lap 5 when he spun the #96 machine and headed rear. At the restart Hudson Snr grabbed the lead and went on to win from Walker who held off Stewart, Corbett, Nick Hudson, Emma Harris, Peter Pesschier in the bright #19, Byron Schmoll who was having his first night for the year and Dave Swan.
Hudson Jnr set the pace out front for the start of heat 2 and looked like he had things under control. Back in the pack Stewart and Corbett were coming through the field to chase down Jnr. Lap 5 and Hudson Jnr ran into more problems and pulled the #96 infield as Stewart took control. Schmoll also pulled infield with chain issues as first night gremlins reared their head. Stewart comfortably took victory from Corbett, Harris with a great drive in third, Hudson Snr, Walker and Swan. Schmoll and Hudson Jnr DNF and unfortunately both out for the rest of the night.
Swan led the last heat of the night away but it was first Corbett who grabbed the lead before Stewart passed both to make it 3 different leaders in the first lap! Hot on their heels was Hudson, however Stewart would pull away and leave Corbett and Hudson to scrap over for second and that they did as they both passed each other on several occasions. Meanwhile Harris and Swan were having a great battle just behind as Harris tried everything bar flying over him to get past but Swan wasn’t having a bar of it and shut the door more times than a locksmith!! Walker and Pesschier had a great view of it as they sat waiting for a chance to join in. So Stewart took the win with Corbett holding off Hudson with plenty of steam coming from both helmets, ahead of a brilliant drive from Swan, Harris, Walker and Pesschier.
Unfortunately the small field lost another car at the start of the feature as the fluro green #19 Pesschier machine refused to fire leaving six to fight it out. Hudson Snr took advantage of the missing Pesschier moving forward quickly and into the lead and setting sail to make a gap. Corbett was first to give chase ahead of Stewart and Harris. The race ran incident free and without much positional change until two to go when Stewart blasted past Corbett for second, but out front Hudson wouldn’t be caught. So Hudson took his third feature in a row ahead of Stewart, Corbett, Harris, Walker and Dave Swan.
