Fantastic weather greeted the Victorian Compact Speedcar Club at Wangaratta City Speedway for Round 1 of the Xtreme Series.
With 11 drivers eager to step out on to the track for the first time this season, excitement and anticipation was high.
Unfortunately interstate traveller Gavin Gay was unable to compete in the heat races as a damaged steering box ended his night in the Hot Laps
Heat 1 saw everyone getting their head around the track and their cars with a fast racing Robbie Gordon taking first, ahead of Michael Dickson and Mark Cecil rounding out the top three.
Heat 2 saw some tight racing with Robbie Gordon getting more of a handle on his car, but right behind him were Jaime Laird and Matthew Adams, both debuting new paint jobs to complement their fast cars!
The final heat saw great battles throughout the field. Cecil and Dickson were racing nose to tail until the late stages with Ceil taking second and Dickson third. Gordon continued his excellent run on a changing track. By this stage a few drivers had already burned up a right rear tyre on the very slick track.
Feature racing saw the compacts put on a great show for the crowd. As he had done all night, Gordon steamed ahead to take the win from Dickson and Laird. The Crawford owned number 18 was unfortunate to not finish the race, retiring infield with motor problems.
The next outing for the VCSC will be on Saturday November 23 at Rushworth.
